The acoustic conditioning company Aistec is currently conducting an acoustic study of the Alcazaba Tunnel in Málaga to assess the impact of noise in one of the most important access points to the city center and propose the necessary measures for improvement.
This study is being carried out within the framework of the collaboration agreement between the specialized acoustic solutions company and the Málaga City Council. Since the approval of Málaga’s Noise Action Plans in 2009—in compliance with the Noise Law—the council has progressively increased the necessary measures in this regard, particularly those related to road traffic, which is the main source of noise in the city.
In this context, the Alcazaba Tunnel is an area of great interest, as it registers extremely high noise levels, ranging between 85 and 90 decibels (dBA). The acoustic conditioning of the tunnel has been a recurring demand addressed on multiple occasions by the city’s Social Council. For this reason, Aistec will conduct a study on acoustic conditioning measures to determine the type of interventions needed to reduce noise levels.
“Currently, the noise levels in the tunnel are excessively high, and combined with the duration of pedestrian exposure to these levels, this exposure becomes both disturbing and harmful to citizens,” says Antonio Jiménez, Aistec’s manager. He adds, “The ultimate goal of this initiative is to carry out measurements of reverberation time and sound pressure levels to determine which type of intervention and materials are best suited to achieve a significant improvement in acoustic comfort inside the emblematic Alcazaba Tunnel in Málaga. At Aistec, we will offer solutions that ensure proper comfort and minimal sound pressure levels while acting in the least intrusive manner possible.”
