In this project, our team had the opportunity to develop a comprehensive acoustic study for the space designed by the architecture firm quark arquitectura, implementing advanced acoustic solutions from the architectural design phase.
Thanks to our exclusive SAM (Smart Acoustic Mapping) methodology for analysis and measurement, we were able to study the behavior of noise in each area, how it interacted with geometry and surface materials, and how it ultimately affected the people working there. With the help of SAM and our atelier service, we designed a space that is both acoustically comfortable and aesthetically innovative and evocative.
The result was a functional, healthy, and efficient environment that enhances workplace well-being by integrating acoustic comfort and sustainability from the outset.
From the early stages of the project, spatial efficiency, natural light optimization, cross-ventilation, and above all the users’ acoustic comfort were prioritized. The layout was structured around two main functional zones:
Offices and Meeting Rooms
These enclosed spaces were conceived to foster focus and effective decision-making. They were fitted with acoustic glass partitions that allow natural light to pass through, and both the enclosures and joinery received acoustic treatments. Ergonomic furniture and wall coverings, including high-performance EPD-certified ECOpanel acoustic solutions, completed an environment designed for comfort and privacy.
Break and Dining Area
This open space was designed as an informal gathering point that encourages disconnection, spontaneous interaction, and team cohesion. ECOpanel baffles and clouds were strategically applied to the ceiling to absorb noise, delivering a warm aesthetic and creating a welcoming atmosphere that enhances both well-being and indoor acoustic quality.
The implemented acoustic treatment led to notable technical improvements in the sound quality of the various areas within the project. In the meeting rooms, for instance, the reverberation time (RT60) was significantly reduced—from 0.85 seconds in its original state to just 0.27 seconds after incorporating ECOpanel into ceilings, walls, and technical furniture elements. This improvement in speech intelligibility and auditory comfort was key to ensuring an optimal communication environment, significantly reducing stress caused by poor acoustic conditions.
In this multi-purpose open-plan space, the goal was to accommodate dual functionality: simultaneous meetings and a setting for talks or conferences. Thanks to the acoustic treatment, both purposes were achieved with optimal performance. The result is a perfect balance between sound absorption and diffusion. The reverberation time in this area was reduced from 1.56 seconds to 0.9 seconds.
Beyond acoustic comfort, early integration of acoustic design delivers substantial operational and economic benefits throughout the project. One of the key advantages was the prevention of corrective renovations: by anticipating the acoustic conditioning during the design phase, costly modifications—estimated by the UK’s Institute of Acoustics to potentially increase the budget by 15% to 20%—were successfully avoided.
This quark arquitectura project transforms architectural design into a strategic tool. Acoustic conditioning adds tangible value: it enhances the functionality of spaces, improves users’ quality of life, and optimizes client resources.
